The following job categories are currently used throughout the Michigan Department of Information Technology:

 

 

 

Application Developers

 

Participate in or lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of applications used by various state agencies. Current technologies including Java and .NET based languages.  Knowledge and/or experience in some of the following:  asp, jsp, HTML, Access, PowerBuilder, IBM Rational, and other development environments is highly desired.  Technologies being used: Visual Studio.NET, Apache Struts, N-Tier, LDAP, web services, J2EE, WebSphere, SOA, and XML. These positions work directly with other application developers and analysts, clients and management to ensure quality products.

 

Web Developers

 

Participate in or lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of public-facing and internal web sites. Knowledge and/or experience with Visual Studio (.NET) is highly desired, along with CSS, JavaScript, XML, SQL server, and/or e-Commerce. These positions work directly with other web developers and analysts, clients and management to ensure quality products.  Responsible for following agency processes, web development standards and best practices, web graphic design standards and ADA compliance standards.

 

Database Administrators


This opportunity includes all aspects of database management including database design, forecasting future growth, migrating to newer versions of the database, performance tuning, SQL query optimization, and assisting with data migration for newly developed applications. Databases include Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and Sybase

 

 

Configuration Management Analysts

 

Work with database administrators, application developers and business owners to ensure the quality of application updates by doing configuration management.  In this role you analyze the various changes by tracking source code changes and ensure application quality during the rollout of new application versions by managing the deployment process. Knowledge and/or experience with Serena is highly desired.

 

 

Web Site Administrator

 

This position is responsible for the overall quality, operation, design and security of the web site, in addition to daily routine support.  In this role you ensure compliance of the site with both State and Agency Look and Feel, Usability and ADA standards.  In addition, you work with content managers for the agencies, clients and management and other site administrators to ensure quality products.  Knowledge and experience with Content Management Systems, HTML is desired. 

 

 

Testing Analyst

 

In this role you assist with the development and administration of quality control standards and software testing methodologies.  Testers may perform or provide support and input for test case development, test execution, and defect management.  Testing execution may include functional testing, system testing, performance testing, and user acceptance support and regression testing activities. 

 

 

 

Qualifications


  • Education - Possession of a bachelor’s degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, or mathematics.
  • Experience
    • Information Technology Programmer/Analyst, No specific type or amount is required.
    • Senior Information Technology Programmer/Analyst, Three years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Programmer/Analyst in State Service.
  • Alternate Education and Experience –
    • Possession of an associate’s degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, mathematics or equivalent; and two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, or information technology technician may be substituted for the education requirement.
    • Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, or information technology technician may be substituted for the education requirement.

NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

 


Pay Range: $16.72 - $33.07 per hour plus; Health, Dental, Vision, Life, and Long Term Disability Insurance and Retirement benefits.
